The Nurse Advantage
Some visitors to KidsCaredFor may wonder what the advantages of having a nurse provide care instead of family, friend, neighbor, or certified nursing assistant. Nurses are highly skilled and trained professionals. Nurses have strengths, both legally and practically that your child deserves and needs.
Why should I use a Nurse instead of my family or friends to care for my child?
Our nurses are available whenever there is a need. You don’t have to inconvenience your family and friends when your child is sick or injured. Our compassionate level of care will equal the love and affection family and friends have for you child. Plus our nurses are trained and licensed to perform care that the average person is not equipped to handle. Nurses are trained in pharmacology (administration and handling of prescribed medications). The average person may not know which medication or medications to give for particular symptoms, or the proper dose to administer. Nurses are highly skilled and trained in assessing and treating. The average person does not have these skills. We encourage family and friends to participate in care with us when the parents request this.
Why should I use a Nurse instead of a Certified Nursing Assistant?
The range of practice of a nurse is much broader than that of a CNA. All nurses are governed by the Nurse Practice Act (NPA). These laws protect the public by ensuring the quality, level and extent of care nurses provide. A nurse can administer prescribed medications as well as over-the-counter medications. A CNA is not licensed to administer medications. A nurse has the ability to assess a child and treat in a prudent manner. A CNA can only report situations and does not have the training or skill to perform nursing duties. A nurse is trained to evaluate situations that may affect the health of your child and implement changes as needed on an independent basis to ensure the highest quality of care is provided. A CNA is not licensed to treat on an independent basis. All of our nurses have a passion for children. When you add these strengths together, qualified, skilled, trained, and compassionate, your child is definitely in the right hands.
